Job Description

The Oklahoma Arts Council (OAC) is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts. Position Summary

The Oklahoma Arts Council seeks an experienced museum educator/arts educator to manage the Capitol Tours program. This is a part?time, temporary position that reports directly to the Director of Visual and Public Art. The hourly rate is $25.32 and does not include any benefits.

Essential Functions

This position manages education programs focused on increasing audience engagement for both youth and adults with state?owned artworks in the Oklahoma State Capitol Art Collection, the Oklahoma State Art Collection, and the Oklahoma Art in Public Places Collection, as well as works by contemporary Oklahoma artists and special exhibitions in the rotating galleries of the Capitol. The primary focus is administration of the Capitol Tours program including managing the volunteer docents.

Responsibilities Include


Education and Interpretation


  • Work with the Director of Visual and Public Art, Director of Collections Management, Curator of Capitol Exhibitions, and Director of Art in Public Places to accurately and appropriately research and develop high quality curriculum resources and interpretive content for multiple audiences in exhibitions, programs, and publications for all visual and public art programs at the Capitol, public art collections, and special visual and public art projects.


Tour and Educator Programs
  • Create interactive tour experiences and curriculum support for educators and school?aged youth, including homeschoolers and scouts.
  • Recruit and manage a team of volunteer docents and provide training that incorporates audience engagement techniques.
  • Produce and provide training for the Oklahoma State Capitol art collections, exhibitions, and overall visitor tour guides for the artwork.
  • Lead guided tours as necessary when a Capitol Docent is not available and/or during Capitol Docent training sessions.
  • Recording tour and docent metrics (number of visitors served, number of volunteer hours, etc.).


Grants for Engagement Programs
  • Oversee the Capitol field trip grant program.
  • Provide technical assistance to grant applicants and review draft applications.
  • Identify eligible grant applicants and promote grant opportunities, particularly to rural and underserved communities.
  • Work with the Grants and Programs Team to ensure consistency in program delivery and technical assistance to guarantee professionalism with our constituents.


Other: Limited overnight travel may be required, as well as attendance at occasional evening or weekend meetings or events.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited four?year college or university with a bachelors degree in museum studies, art history, arts administration, arts education, public art, or an arts?related field; masters degree with specialization in an arts?related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of museum education experience required; art museum and visual arts expertise preferred.
  • High?level project management experience required.
  • Experience in administering or coordinating educational programs and working with teaching artists required.
  • Ability to produce critical writing for interpretive resources and other written materials for a wider audience required.
  • Exemplary knowledge of technology, with a high level of computer literacy including the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint), database technologies, and mobile computing, among others.
  • Skilled in organizing work and managing time with ability to complete tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual, Spanish?speaker a plus.


Key Requirements and Physical Demands
  • Pre?employment OSBI background check must be successfully completed.
  • Must hold driver's license and be able to drive a vehicle to various locations across the state if necessary.
  • Must be able to load and unload materials of up to 40 pounds.
