Summer Camp Nurse
Direct Supervisor: Jen Hayes - Director of Auxiliary Programs
Type: Part -Time Temporary Employee
Job Summary: The Independence School Summer Camp Nurse is responsible for the care and supervision of all medical services. They will provide medical treatment to campers and staff, administer medication, comply with all required documentation, act as a health educator for campers and staff, and communicate pertinent information to parents and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in organizing and setting up the camp office
- Administers immediate first aid to injured parties, performs nursing assessment, and implements intervention as guided by nursing judgement
- Maintains camper medical records, seeing that parents/guardians have proper medical forms submitted
- Monitors immunizations and communicable diseases. Oversees infection control
- Assesses the environment to ensure a safe and healthy school environment
- Oversees medication administration, anaphylaxis list and health care plans
- Maintains the school's AEDs
- Inventory is supplied for counselors' First-Aid kits
- Keeps a daily log of camper office visits, treatments, and medication administration
- Accepts and stores all prescription and emergency medications
- Administers prescription, emergency and OTC medications when necessary
- Illness and injury management
- Communicates with parents and counselors of camper's illness or injury
- Is a medical resource that bridges the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies
- Familiar with The Independence School's health protocols and standing orders
- Completes and follows up on incident reports
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Licensed as a registered nurse in Delaware; BSN preferred
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Ability to maintain health forms and paperwork
- Ability to maintain and administer all medications
- Ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure
- Excellent working skills including communication, organization and attention to details
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring the nurse. Must be able to assist in an emergency (fire, evacuation, injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
