Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Barista is responsible for crafting high-quality beverages and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. They prepare coffee, tea, and specialty drinks to exacting standards, maintain a clean and welcoming workspace, and assist with inventory and stocking. This role requires strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a passion for coffee and providing great service. The ideal candidate thrives in creating memorable experiences for customers and contributes to a warm, inviting atmosphere.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and tea beverages to customer specifications, including espresso drinks, teas, and specialty drinks. Operate equipment, grinders, and espresso machines.
  • Follow recipes and presentation standards to ensure consistency and quality in all beverages.
  • Greet customers warmly and take their orders accurately.
  • Provide recommendations and answer questions about the menu, including information on ingredients and preparation methods.
  • Address customer complaints and concerns promptly and courteously, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the coffee bar, seating areas, and restrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly.
  • Restock supplies, ingredients, and packaging materials as needed.
  • Assist with training new team members as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a supportive and cooperative team culture.
  • Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies.
  • Notify management of low stock levels and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Ensure proper rotation of stock to maintain freshness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position (40 hours). Days and hours of work are anytime from Sunday, 5:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Saturday, 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., Fridays Closed. Weekend work is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to do the following:

  • Must have good or corrected vision as well as effective peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have good manual dexterity, be able to handle hot beverages, and use repetitive hand and arm motions.
  • Must be able to stand and or walk for long periods of time frequently.
  • Must be able to move about inside and outside the building to perform various tasks.
  • Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds and/or push/pull objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend and crawl in awkward spaces.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous Barista experience or in a similar customer service role is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties are performed in a retail coffee shop environment where the work and general environment may be fast-paced and hectic at times. Therefore, it is essential that the employee can effectively handle the normal anxieties associated with the job and manage multiple projects/orders in a service-oriented environment. Environmental noise levels are minimal.
