Major Duties Under the direction of the Manager of Administrative Services, performs special investigative assignments of a temporary nature. The incumbent coordinates, conducts, and compiles background investigations for candidates under consideration to work within the Police Department. Background investigations for police officers and dispatchers are done in accordance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards.
- Performs related duties as designated by the Chief of Police. Conducts and compiles personal and professional background investigations for public safety candidates by interviewing employers, co-workers, neighbors, law enforcement officials, military personnel, members of the candidate's family, and personal references.
- Prepares reports on findings; addresses consequential matters, makes decisions and recommendations as to background findings; represents the department, provides consultative advice to management, and resolving significant issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Completion of a POST-certified, 32hr. Background Investigations course.
- Five years of full-time paid experience within the last ten years as a California peace officer that includes experience in background investigations for employment, internal affairs, or in-depth investigations of criminal matters.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - This position will require the following competencies: judgment and decision making, attention to detail, fact finding, written communication, and job knowledge.
- Knowledge of confidentiality laws such as Officer Bill of Rights, ADA, HIPAA and principles and practices as they apply to personnel records and handling requests for information to ensure the integrity and privacy of candidates' background investigation files.
- Interviewing techniques; investigative techniques and concepts of background investigations.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule - Classification: Special Consultant
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: up to $45.00 per hour , dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $16.50 - $156.25 per hour.
- HOURS: Hourly/Intermittent; up to 20 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends. When deemed necessary, local and long-distance travel will be required to conduct interviews, review employment records, legal history, verify residential history, and follow-up on investigative leads within the scope of a background investigation.
- This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
- The position is currently hybrid (1 day in office, 4 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.

- This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. The selected candidate must pass a fingerprint clearance (LiveScan).
