About Us: Beacon Village is a dynamic and compassionate organization dedicated to providing supportive transitional shelter to chronically homeless individuals who are ready to transform their lives. Our goal is to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments that empower individuals to lead fulfilling lives. We serve as the vital bridge between emergency shelter and permanent housing for people who have been chronically homeless. Our focus is on stability, reintegration into the community, and fostering long-lasting connections. We firmly believe that individuals become ready to rejoin their communities by being actively involved within them, as true reconnection cannot happen from the outside. Position Overview:

The Board of Directors at Beacon Village plays a crucial role in guiding the organization's operations, ensuring its mission is upheld, and making strategic decisions to achieve its goals. As a Board Member at Beacon Village, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our organization, ensuring that we continue to make a meaningful impact in our community. Board Members provide valuable insights, expertise, and work closely with our Executive Director, contributing to the growth and sustainability of our programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular board meetings and actively participate in discussions on organizational strategy, policies, financial oversight, program development, and long-term strategic goals.
  • Ensure the alignment of all organizational activities with our mission, values, and ethical standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director and Beacon Village team, leveraging your expertise to help navigate challenges and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Actively engage in fundraising efforts, and cultivate potential donors, sponsors, and partners to secure resources for Beacon Village's programs and initiatives.
  • Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of Beacon Village's programs and services to ensure they remain aligned with our mission and funding sources.
  • Advocate for Beacon Village and its mission within the community, fostering partnerships and collaborations that enhance our impact.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization, helping to raise awareness and build support for our programs.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission and a strong commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families facing housing challenges.
  • Previous board experience or a proven track record of leadership in a nonprofit or related field.
  • Interest in participating in further developing and implementing our mission, vision, and long-term strategic goals.
  • Effective communicator who can navigate sensitive situations with empathy while maintaining clarity and focus to drive projects and programs forward.
  • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to dedicate time and resources to advance the goals of the organization.
  • Knowledge in areas such as finance, fundraising, legal, marketing, construction, HR, strategic planning, or organizational development as well as experience in shelter and/or human services, ideally within the local continuum of care are a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment:

  • Board Members are expected to serve a term of 2 years with the possibility of renewal.
  • This role requires attendance at consistent board meetings, participation in occasional committee meetings and special events, as well as reviewing and providing feedback on written materials between meetings, averaging 8-10 hours total per month.
