Job Title: Surgical Tech II-CVOR (UH)
Job Summary: To perform all basic surgical technician responsibilities in all areas. To serve as lead tech for a surgical specialty. To provide technical information to other team members and co-workers by way of educational in-services. To prepare the operating room for surgical procedures ensuring availability of required items in accordance with regulatory and infection control standards. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose.
Education & Experience Graduate of an approved School of Surgical Technology plus (2) years of surgical tech experience.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: NA
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Surgical techniques and equipment knowledge. UMMC infection control and regulatory sterilization standards understanding. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills including effective interaction with surgical team members. Team-oriented.
Responsibilities - Maintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards.
- Provides basic surgical support including room set-up, sterile field management, handling of specimen and instruments, and room turnover.
- Assesses the equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensures availability.
- Ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures and serves as resource to co-workers.
- Follows infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements in the daily practice in order to assure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.
- In conjunction with CNS, provides educational offerings to co-workers related to technical aspect of surgical specialty. Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
