Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Lead Underwriter to manage the production, underwriting, and profitability of a portfolio of new and renewal business, aiming to meet or exceed annual targets.
- Review assigned new business submissions to ensure risk eligibility, confirm that all necessary underwriting documentation is in place, and determine appropriate pricing.
- Analyze loss runs and calculate loss ratios, utilizing these insights in underwriting and quoting processes for both new business and renewals.
- Prepare referrals for accounts beyond your authority and submit them to the Lead Underwriter for approval or further submission.
- Strive to achieve new business hit ratios and renewal retention goals.
- Provide technical training to new underwriting team members to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and documentation requirements.
- Coordinate with Underwriting Support to issue accurate policies and endorsements, and review complex policies.
- Engage in new business development in alignment with the program's business plan.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned production sources to enhance client retention and foster strategic partnerships.
- Cultivate solid relationships with carriers to instill confidence in your underwriting expertise.
- Collaborate with the Lead Underwriter to enhance our profile through participation in broker marketing calls.
- Meet performance standards for response times, quoting, binding, issuance, endorsements, and other underwriting responsibilities.
- Work towards becoming a subject matter expert in primary and excess private/nonprofit entity coverage and emerging issues within the management liability sector.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical abilities
- Proficient computer skills and the ability to independently utilize Microsoft Office products
- Solid negotiation skills with a knack for closing new business opportunities
- Flexibility for occasional business travel (0%-20%)
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent education is preferred
- CPCU or ARM designation is a plus
- A minimum of 2 years of insurance underwriting experience, specifically in management liability-related segments
