Job Description

PayIt is a fast-growing GovTech company on a mission to modernize how residents interact and transact with government, improving the customer experience and helping our client agencies more efficiently and effectively achieve their missions. Our easy-to-implement platform consolidates government services and payments into one connected experience and enables our clients to drive resident trust, collect revenue quickly, and redeploy their staff to more important challenges. This innovative approach to government service delivery has garnered significant recognition in both the public and private sectors, including our inclusion in the GovTech 100 every year since 2017. PayIt solutions cover services including hunting and fishing licensing, DMV, courts, property tax, utilities, tolling, and more.

Our culture welcomes people who exhibit what we call "PayIt DNA": High integrity, drive, grit, high aptitude, and team orientation. We are collaborative and passionate about the work we do to improve the lives of our government clients and the end users they serve. We have ambitious scaling goals, and we look for team members who are ready to roll up their sleeves, solve problems, and find new opportunities to win with our clients. And we have a lot of fun together.

About the Role:

We are looking for a talented and experienced Mobile App Designer to join the Product Experience Design team at PayIt. As a Mobile App Designer, you will be responsible for designing intuitive, user-centered mobile applications that deliver an exceptional user experience. You'll be joining a team of world class designers to provide innovative new experiences that have impact and visibility throughout PayIt.

Our mission to provide modern technology solutions to all residents includes a focus on providing equitable and accessible government services. Our software is designed around people and we put the end-users at the center of all that we do.

Hourly Rate: $60-$75What You'll Be Doing:
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Client teams and others to create simple and engaging user experiences that are "Easier for everyone".
  • Represent Product Design for the organization. From day-to-day work with your team to cross-functional interactions, you are a great communicator and share your enthusiasm and user centered design insight with the organization.
  • Understand what issues impact our end users by contributing to research, user interviews, designing, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • A strong ability to assess Information Architecture and create simple and engaging Interaction Designs.
  • Create wireframes, user flows, and other deliverables to communicate the user experience of a given feature.
  • Create high-fidelity visual designs for mobile applications with detailed annotations on interaction designs, accessibility, and responsive behavior for Engineers and other stakeholders.
  • You will collaborate with other designers and engineers on your scrum team to provide solutions and own the design of new features.
  • Work closely with engineers and balance technical limitations with the needs of users.
  • You must be able to work within PayIt's existing design system and brand guidelines.
What You'll Need to Have:
  • Minimum 5+ years experience working in Product Design, as a mobile app UX/UI Designer or within a similar field.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's in a Design curriculum or gained relevant work experience in the Design field.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing previous mobile app design work, including case studies and detailed explanations of design processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma and FigJam, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of G Suite and Jira.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of mobile design principles, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with platform-specific design guidelines (Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, Google's Material Design).
  • Experience designing solutions within a React Native mobile app framework.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with User-Centered Design principles and methodologies.
  • A collaborative approach to solving problems that includes leading design reviews with Product and Engineering teams.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving and an ability to iterate rapidly. You see the difference between work that is "ready" vs work that is "perfect".
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate and defend design decisions.
  • An ability to set aside ego and work together to find the best solution for the team and the end user.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to laugh. We make the most of hybrid/remote work by finding time to have fun and genuinely enjoy each other's company.
Bonus Points For:
  • Familiarity with designing for Accessibility using WCAG guidelines.
  • Experience designing within a SaaS environment.
  • Experience conducting a thorough evaluation of a current mobile app, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending a comprehensive redesign based on the latest design principles, best practices, and user-centered design methodologies.
  • Outdoors hobbies, including hunting or fishing.
  • Experience with research or analytics tools such as Maze or Pendo.

Why Work For Us:

  • Our mission matters. Your work will make life better for our government agency clients and the millions of residents they serve.
