Job Summary The Safety Technician will support the Safety Officer and department managers to ensure a safe working environment throughout the Travis Association for the Blind facilities. This position will assist with first response to medical situations, ensuring care and compassion to team members.
Responsibilities •Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
•Assist with, and manage day-to-day safety and security operations
•Schedule and conduct trainings and monthly safety meetings
•Conduct monthly safety inspections on facility health and safety equipment
•Remains on call during business hours and ensures prompt responsiveness to on-site injuries and emergencies, including transporting to occ med facilities.
•Manage inventory of first aid supplies, PPE and replenishes as needed
•Maintain and ensure safety data sheets are up to date.
•Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
•Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
•Investigate health/ safety related complaints and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply with public health legislation and regulations.
•Provide new employee health and safety orientations and develop training presentations.
•Maintain and update emergency response plans or procedures.
•Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
•Modify or suspend activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
•Complies with and assists other employees in understanding and complying with TAB's policies and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience •Associate degree or OSHA 10 & 30 certifications preferred
•Will substitute a combination of college and work experience
•First Aid certified a plus
•CPR certified a plus
•Forklift certified a plus
Physical Requirements With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:
•Work in high stress situations with a calm, poised demeanor
•Endure prolonged periods of working on a computer
•Walk inside and outside of facility for 2-4 hours at a time
•Remain in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 4-8 hours
- Lift/move up to 35 lbs. at times
- Bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 20% of time
- Work in conditions with varying temperature, including cold and/or heat
