Responsible for the immunization program as well as documentation of employee injuries. Directly involved in planning/follow up post employee TB exposure events. Collaborates with Human Resources and Infection Control concerning injured worker documentation and general infection control issues. Shares responsibility for educating staff about the risk of transmission and appropriate exposure precautions for communicable diseases.

REPORTS TO:

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the immunization program as well as documentation of employee injuries.
• Directly involved in planning/follow up post employee TB exposure events.
• Educates staff about the risk of transmission and appropriate exposure precautions for
communicable diseases.
• Summarizes the monitoring and evaluation activities of assigned groups and reports relevant
information.
• Maintains working knowledge of OSHA, DNV and other accreditation functions affecting UMC.
• Acts as a reference for hospital departments and medical staffs to meet UMC Policy
requirements.
• Serves on Committees as requested.
• Collaborates with Human Resources and Infection Control concerning general infection control
issues, injured worker documentation and Americans with Disability (ADA) accommodations.
• Provides appropriate feedback to supervisor on departmental operations.
• Provides appropriate statistical data to Texas Department of Health in a timely manner.
• Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Minimum of 5 years nursing experience required/occupational health nursing is desired.

REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

• Must have current license from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
• Certified HIV/AIDS Counselor/educator desired.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of nursing practice. Specialized education in occupational injuries and immunology, and nursing management preferred. Ability to maintain ongoing employee health records and prepare statistical reports. Must be able to work well with others and communicate effectively in writing as well as orally. Must be able to work without close supervision. Computer skills are an important aspect of the position. Requires good organizational skills. Possesses the ability to adapt to changes in workload and demonstrates flexibility when faced with interruption.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

This position requires close interaction with employees of all departments within the hospital, along with medical staff and volunteers.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Work is of medium demand. Walking and standing most of the time on duty. May handle heavy audio-visual activity. Frequent, prolonged periods of sitting. Lifting requirements of 20 pounds less than 10% of time. Occasional pushing of cart with medical records. Must have fine motor skills and visual acuity for computer work and performing tests on employees. Talking and hearing is essential for communication to staff.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is of high risk.
