The R&D Principal Research Assistant performs a wide variety of technical tasks in support of specific Melaleuca new or existing products. The Principal Research Assistant is expected to use his/her mastery of Science and training to consistently deliver contributions that result in new and/or improved products, packages, processes or methodologies. Employees at this level usually own and lead the technical progression of a key element of a project (e.g., demonstrate and implement new technology, modeling, anticipation of potential technical issues and resolution, new test method design, etc..). The Principal Researcher is usually very independent and self-motivated. Essential + Identify product improvement opportunities or new product opportunities. Develop new insights. + Identify technologies and technical approaches which deliver against project objectives. + Lead technical development, test methods and implementation. + Use mastery and data to identify non-obvious project and technology connections. + Anticipate technical issues and develop testing plans. + Convert their ideas to practice based on experience and technical mastery. + Serve as technical resource to others and technical mentors / coach for Researchers and Senior Researchers. + Lead or identify new areas of improvement based on data. + Be able to independently set up and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE). + Review artwork and formulation instructions to identify any potential issues. + Help teach less experienced Researchers and Senior Researchers. + Maintain accurate records of trial compositions and observations. + Create and apply appropriate statistical analyses. + Actively participate in supplier meetings and independently manage relevant projects/ interface as requested by department director. + Radiate a positive and 'can-do' attitude. Can be counted on as a coach and role model for Researchers. Additional + Prepare questionnaires and prototypes for sensory and in home use tests of Melaleuca products and competitive products. + Use internal computer systems to record and analyze data, prepare graphs, reports and memos and communicate with coworkers in R&D and in other Melaleuca Departments. + Prepare and present data summaries using appropriate mathematical and statistical tools available in Microsoft Excel, Mini-Tab and other computer applications. + Evaluate and recommend finishing and rework procedures for non-standard lots of Melaleuca products. + Create Bill of Materials (BOM), specification sheets, and other electronic forms to support Purchasing, QA and Operations. + Represent R&D function in support of QA, Operations, Purchasing and Marketing activities. + Work directly with Melaleuca suppliers to develop new technologies for Melaleuca products. Essential + Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline. + Chemist or Chemical Engineer + Ideally with 2-5 years of formulation experience/developing new products + Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. + Proficiency in basic statistical analyses. + Proficiency in Experimental Design Additional + Chemistry, biology or biochemistry degree preferred. + Experience using common lab instruments (e.g. pH meter, viscometer).
