Description
Job Summary: The NWTF Storyteller will work to convey the relevance of the NWTF's mission to audiences in the hunting and outdoors space, as well as pursuing other audiences that benefit from the work of the NWTF.
To accomplish this, the NWTF Storyteller position will seek out, create and share both large and small stories about the NWTF's mission impact benefiting communities, people, wildlife conservation, landscape-level habitat restoration, and efforts to preserve the lifestyle and soul of the American hunter.
This position will be located and primarily telling stories in the northeastern U.S.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities: - Craft compelling stories/content for a variety of NWTF and non-traditional outlets:
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Websites
- Press releases
- E-newsletters
- Eblasts
- Photograph, correct and format images for magazine and web use
- Update content regularly and suggest areas of improvement on website
- Must be able to take projects from concept to completion with minimal guidance
- Edit content for consistency and accuracy by recognizing discrepancies in language, layout, formatting or NWTF branding
- Assist with planning of web editorial calendar
- May be required to help in other departments as necessary
- Attend annual NWTF Convention, regional meetings and training opportunities, as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities: - Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills a must
- Basic knowledge of Adobe CS (HTML and photo editing) for use in developing content
- Knowledge of AP style or ability to learn
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel
- Attention to detail and fact checking
- Understand the NWTF's mission and promote the NWTF to media, members and the public, as well as other employees
- Must be able to take projects from concept to completion with minimal guidance
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, creative, deadline-driven, team player who can adapt and learn quickly, particularly in regard to new software and technology
- Must be able to travel to NWTF events for up to seven consecutive days
- Must be able to legally handle firearms
- Must have a valid driver's license
Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in communications related field or equivalent experience
- Experience in writing for outdoor/hunting or other related industry
- Knowledge about hunting, conservation and outdoor issues preferred
- Hold hunter safety certification or ability to obtain certification
Physical Requirements: - Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time
