Job Description

A school-based position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a kindergarten student in an elementary school setting. This is a contract assignment for the academic year, located in Waynesville, NC. The role involves providing one-on-one interpreting services to facilitate effective communication and support the students learning environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum EIPA score of 3.0 or higher
• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably with young children
• Ability to work one-on-one with students
• Strong understanding of the role and responsibilities of an interpreter in a classroom environment

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and clear sign language interpretation during academic activities for a kindergartener
• Support communication between the student, teachers, and peers
• Adapt interpreting techniques to the students communication preferences and educational needs
• Maintain confidentiality and follow professional ethical standards
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote an inclusive learning environment
