Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Public Information Officer (PIO) Coordinator will be responsible for planning and implementing the development of communication pieces for agency programs designed to keep public informed of agency programs, services, accomplishments, or mission. This position reports to the Deputy Communications Director within the Office of Communications. Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and distribute fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, or other written materials, videos, or any kind of multi-media items media representatives and the public.
  • Prepare and edit organizational publications.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in multi-media production.
  • Consults with advertising agencies or staff to arrange promotional campaigns.
  • Arrange and conduct public-contact programs designed to meet agency objectives.
  • Confers with production and support personnel to coordinate production of advertisements and promotional materials.
  • Represent the agency at public and business gatherings to promote programs, services, or the department’s mission.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient in writing and AP (Associate Press) style, strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, detail oriented. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 2 years of verifiable related experience in public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

 

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

 

Pay:

$50,000 to $60,000
