Position Overview

The Controls Engineering Intern will support the design, development, and testing of control systems, working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams. The position aims to foster learning, innovation, and collaboration while preparing interns for a successful career in engineering by exposing them to industry practices, tools, and challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and developing control systems, including schematics and system layouts.
  • Support PLC and HMI programming, testing, and debugging.
  • Perform simulations, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams and test protocols.
  • Provide support for system upgrades, installations, and on-site commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of controls with mechanical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies in control systems.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD design tool
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication for technical documentation and teamwork.
  • Attention to detail, precision, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Time management, organizational skills, and adaptability to project requirements.
  • Team collaboration and openness to learning and feedback.
  • Passion for engineering and a drive for innovation

Education and/or Experience Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Basic knowledge of controls engineering principles, concepts, and practices.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and other engineering tools.
  • Prior internship, co-op experience, or relevant academic projects is a plus.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and programming

Physical Requirements and Work Environment :

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
