Job Summary for the Cloud Administrator

The Cloud Administrator with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) will be responsible for managing cloud infrastructure through automated processes, enabling scalability, reliability, and efficiency. The role involves building, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based services using IaC tools and frameworks, ensuring that the cloud environment is highly available, secure, and optimized for performance. The candidate will work closely with DevOps and development teams to streamline infrastructure deployments and drive cloud automation.

Job Responsibilities for the Cloud Administrator

  1. Cloud Infrastructure Management
    • Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) with a strong emphasis on automation.
    • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to provision and manage cloud resources using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
    • Automate cloud resource scaling, monitoring, and configuration to reduce manual intervention and minimize errors.
    • Ensure cloud environments are secure, cost-effective, and aligned with best practices for high availability and disaster recovery.
  2. IaC Development and Automation
    • Write, maintain, and optimize IaC scripts to create and manage infrastructure components (network, compute, storage, and security resources).
    • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to integrate IaC into CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployments.
    • Automate repetitive tasks like patch management, backup routines, and server configurations using IaC frameworks and cloud-native services.
  3. Monitoring and Optimization
    • Monitor cloud infrastructure performance and resource utilization, using cloud monitoring services and custom metrics.
    • Troubleshoot issues related to infrastructure, connectivity, and services.
    • Implement auto-scaling policies and capacity planning strategies to optimize resource usage.
  4. Security and Compliance
    • Implement cloud security measures including identity management (IAM), role-based access control (RBAC), and secure networking (VPC, subnets, security groups).
    • Regularly audit cloud environments for security and compliance with industry standards (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
    • Maintain encryption, firewall configurations, and other protective measures to safeguard cloud data.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    • Document infrastructure changes, IaC scripts, and cloud configurations.
    • Prepare reports on cloud costs, resource usage, and performance metrics to inform management decisions.
    • Create runbooks and operational guides for infrastructure management.
  6. Collaboration and Support
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams (DevOps, development, and operations) to ensure the infrastructure meets project and operational requirements.
    • Provide technical support and expertise for cloud infrastructure issues.

Job Requirements for the Cloud Administrator

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate are a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in cloud administration with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proven experience with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating IaC into automated deployment workflows.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture, virtual networking, and infrastructure services (compute, storage, databases).
  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining infrastructure automation scripts using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git) and continuous integration platforms (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, etc.).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with containerized infrastructure and tools like Kubernetes or Docker is preferred.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools is preferred.
