Job Description

Postdoctoral Position In Electrochemistry

The Actinide Chemistry Team in the Chemistry Division is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in electrochemistry to perform laboratory research involving the synthesis and electrochemical studies of high refractory metal, rare earth element, thorium, and/or uranium molecular compounds and solid-state materials. Successful candidates will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that applies synthetic chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, and a suite of electrochemical methods to study and manipulate the chemistry performed by metal compounds and solid-state materials. In this project, synthetic chemistry will be coupled with a variety of electrochemical techniques such as electrolysis, electrocatalysis, electroplating, electrochemical separations, electropolishing, and/or battery science.

Job Requirements Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experimental background and strong publication record in inorganic/organometallic (main group, transition metal or f-element) electrochemistry.
  • Proven in-depth experience in the handling of air-sensitive compounds and a willingness to work with low-level radioactive natural thorium and depleted uranium materials.
  • Proven strong communication and language skills, as evidenced by publications and the cover letter, are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a complex work environment.
  • Experience in experimental design, execution, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience in the preparation and characterization of metal complexes.
  • Proven in-depth experience in the handling of air-sensitive compounds, knowledge of NMR spectroscopy, and x-Ray crystallography.
  • A willingness to work with low-level radioactive natural thorium and depleted uranium materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment in a complex shared laboratory space. This includes active interfacing with both experimental and computational colleagues to assimilate research data and publishing the results.
  • Proven strong technical and interpersonal communication and language skills, both orally and in writing, as evidenced by publications and technical presentations at inter(national) venues.
  • Must be highly self-motivated to drive forward the research independently with their own creative ideas, in addition to direction from the mentor's research priorities.
  • Demonstrated creative and proactive approach to scientific problem solving.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with inorganic and/or inorganic synthetic chemistry.
  • Self-motivated and independent researcher who has demonstrated experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • In addition to the areas listed under the Minimum Job Requirements, some experience in electrolysis, electrocatalysis, electroplating, electrochemical separations, electropolishing, or battery science is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experimental background and strong publication record in organometallic/inorganic (main group, transition metal or f-element) chemical synthesis and mechanistic studies.
  • Experience in preparation and characterization of metal complexes.
