WV Center for Professional Development Mentor Training (completed or willing to complete, free two day online training 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm); leadership skills; excellent communication skills; knowledge of current education trends and research; knowledge of school and county policies; minimum of three years of successful full-time teaching experience in Mineral County Schools; member of the faculty in which beginning teacher is assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: MENTOR TEACHER SCHOOLWIDE IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal
FLSA/CONTRACT STATUS: Extracurricular
EMPLOYMENT TERM: School Year
SALARY: $100 - One New Teacher
$250 - Two - Four New Teachers
$400 - Five or more New Teachers
Per school year "new to Mineral County Schools" educators
EVALUATION: By immediate supervisor as needed
JOB SUMMARY: Serves as a master teacher assigned to a group of new teachers (two or more new to the profession) to mentor on a regular basis
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provides an orientation program for the new teachers during the first month of school;
- Builds relationships with new teachers for the purpose of establishing an environment of trust and collaboration;
- Participates in weekly meetings with the new teachers to discuss the concerns of the new teachers;
- Models professionalism at all times for the purpose of demonstrating expected behaviors and actions;
- Supports and counsels the new teachers; and
- Performs other mentor-related duties as requested by the principal.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Possession of leadership skills with ability to communicate and relate well to school staff and county administrators;
- Have completed the four days of mentor training or willing to commit to attend the training;
- Be a member of the faculty in which the beginning teachers are assigned;
- Teach at/near the same grade level or certification area of the beginning teachers if possible;
- Knowledgeable of current educational trends and research;
- Knowledge of school and county policies; and
- Minimum of three years of successful full-time teaching experience in Mineral County Schools
